"Mechjam 3" game jam entry

A short game demo/vertical slice/proof of concept. I created as an entry to a game jam called "mechjam 3" hosted on itch.io. I worked on this game solo doing the design, programming and art/animation. (Third party assets listed in credits). Main inspirations being games such as Doom eternal and Ultrakill. For this game, I wanted to experiment with health regen with fast paced arena/twitch/"boomer" shooters. As health regen is not used for those types of games at all, and is seen as a modern game trope when those types of games typically go for a retro feel. Additionally, I also wanted to create a fast paced shooter, with fast moving and evasive enemies, mainly with the boss and the elite enemy type. I also wanted to make everything from firing the weapon, to taking damage, feel impactful, i.e. "juice".
With this project, I learnt more about using animation blueprints in UE4, as well as using bone manipulation to make the enemies aim at the player, as well as AI behaviour trees.
